In November 2024 the Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee made a donation to the Teapot Trust, a registered charity established in 2010 to meet the mental health needs of local children and young people living with long term, and often painful, health conditions.
Since then, they have been able to run open group and one to one art therapy in the Oncology Department at Tayside Children’s Hospital at Ninewells, supporting 80 children and young people.
They have also been able to support a family day for children with Crohn’s Disease and Colitis with the Paediatric Gastroenterology and Rheumatology department at Ninewells.
The sessions have given children and young people the ability to express themselves during an emotional time, giving them the opportunity to enjoy a social setting whilst undergoing what can be very isolating treatments. They are able to talk to peers going through similar situations that in turn allowed them to communicate better with family members, promoting a sense of shared experience and mutual support. Many of the children taking part also reported feeling less stressed and more relaxed due to the calming effect of the creative process.
