Wrighting Wrongs Book Signing

The Nine Incoporated Trades are proud supporters of Roger Illsley and his new book – Wrighting Wrongs. Roger was recently our guest speaker at the annual Innes Duffus Lecture.

You are invited to join Roger on 9th October at 6pm to celebrate the launch of Wrighting Wrongs at Watersones book shop in Commercial Street, Dundee.

This commemorative heirloom volume, chronicles the lives of the famous social reformer Frances Wright and her family in Dundee and the USA from the 1720s – 1880s.

Read about Dundee’s most famous woman and her remarkable family.

Recreated from original archival material, follow the fortunes of the Wright family, threadmakers, town councillors and church elders, as they grow their business in 18th century Dundee while the town expands around them.

Trace the short but dramatic lives of James Wright junior, Dundee’s noted coin designer, and his celebrity bride from London society. See his Dundee coins and his original designs.

Learn about his remarkable daughter Frances Wright and her siblings in the 19th century. Born in the Nethergate, orphaned and bankrupt while still an infant, she became internationally famous as the first woman in the USA to speak against slavery and in favour of women’s rights. She had many other notable ‘firsts’ to her name.

And enjoy the hundreds of illustrations.

All net proceeds from book sales will be donated to local charities, of which Dundee Carers Centre will be the primary beneficiary.

Tickets to this event are free, but please contact at dundee@waterstones.com or ask a bookseller in store to reserve your place.
